History
In 1961, Troop 186 was chartered by the PTA of Sand Point Elementary School in NE Seattle. In 1983, when the elementary school closed, the chartered organization was changed to “A Group of Interested Parents,” and the Troop moved to Laurelhurst Elementary School.
Shortly after its formation, that Troop earned the reputation as a fun-oriented group of scouts, which attracted boys like eleven-year-old Bill Gates, who advanced to Life Scout before moving on to other endeavors.
Tradition
Troop 186 is a "Parent Chartered" organization which means that the parents of the scouts are the Troop's sponsors rather than a school, church, or other civic entity.
Our mission is simple; give our sons leadership, service, and adventure opportunities through an active, fun, and well-run Scout-led Troop that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Since 1961, Troop 186 has seen hundreds of its members earn the rank of Eagle Scout; over 50 years of accomplishment, fun, and adventure!
Inclusion
In keeping with our Troop's history and tradition, Troop 186 welcomes all Scouts to join our Troop without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, national identity origin, citizenship status, or disability status.
