Scouts BSA Troop 13

Troop 13 offers a year-round Scout-led adventure-based program designed to offer and encourage effective character, citizenship, and fitness training for boys age 11-17. In addition to camping, Scouts and adult leaders enjoy activities such as hiking, rock-climbing and rappelling, kayaking, target-shooting, archery, and more while accommodating the needs of today’s busy families.

Scouting Events

Troop 13 kayaking in Missouri

Our Troop enjoys yearly summer camps and monthly outdoor scouting events.

Each year scouts vote for the location of our week-long summer camp. These camps allow the scouts to enjoy camping, earning merit badges, and high adventure activities like horseback riding and ATVs at camps across the Midwest. Over the past few years, our camps have included Rainbow Scout Reservation in Morris, Illinois; Owasippe Scout Reservation in Twin Lake, Michigan; Ransburg Scout Reservation in Bloomington, Indiana; Tomahawk Scout Camp in Birchwood, Wisconsin; and Pioneer Scout Reservation in Pioneer, Ohio.

Recent campouts have included a kayaking trip through caverns in Missouri, shooting sports campouts at Rainbow Scout Reservation, hiking and biking at Channahon State Park, winter cabin camping, a visit to the Saint Louis City Museum and Gateway Arch, ski weekend in Wisconsin, and a trip to see the Total Solar Eclipse in Southern Illinois.

Merit Badges

Merit badges give Scouts the opportunity to investigate over 135 different areas of knowledge and skills from Business to Woodworking. The Merit Badge Program is a major part of Scouting advancement that can begin as soon as a Scout registers with a troop. Our Troop is blessed to have leaders who are also willing to share their expertise in over 75 merit badges.  The only limitation to this program is the Scout’s ambition.

High Adventure

In addition to our local campouts, our older scouts can also participate in High Adventure campouts across the country.  These trips, for scouts 14 and older, generally last 2 weeks and offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences.  Troop 13 offers a full rotation of High Adventure camps with one camp every one to two years.

Past High Adventure trips have included moutain climbing at Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, kayaking in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota, white water rafting at Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, and sailing around Saint John on a sailboat.  All trips are selected and led by the scouts while experienced Troop leaders guide them through all the steps.
